As care needs grow more complex, how can aged care systems expand while keeping care personal and compassionate?

This question shaped the recent Ageing Asia panel, “Global Blueprint for the Next Decade of Care: Can We Scale Compassion?” One Aged Care Group CEO Ms Ong Hui Ming shared her perspectives on the future of care. She also reflected on how caring for her grandmother shaped her understanding of seniors and their caregivers.

Understanding What Matters to Seniors

Drawing from her personal caregiving experience, Ms Ong highlighted the importance of listening to seniors and their families.

“With each interaction and conversation we share with our seniors and their families, we learn more about what truly matters to them. This takes time, presence, and a hearing heart,” shared Ms Ong.

Her reflection reinforces an important principle. Meaningful care begins with understanding each person. It takes time to build trust, listen to individual needs and recognise what matters most to each senior.

Balancing Growth with Compassion

As One Aged Care grows, we must ensure that our systems and culture continue to support personalised care. Strong processes and operational capabilities help our teams deliver care consistently. However, these systems should strengthen human connection, not replace it.

This means looking beyond clinical needs. We must also consider how our services support seniors’ independence, emotional well-being and social connections. By taking a holistic approach, we can create more meaningful care experiences for seniors and their families.

Keeping Relationships at the Heart of Care

Relationships and trust are not simply outcomes of care. They form its foundation. This principle guides how we design our services, shape our care environments and empower our teams.

Ultimately, scaling care is not just about reaching more people. It is about ensuring that every person continues to feel valued, respected and supported.

At One Aged Care, we remain committed to keeping care deeply human as we grow and innovate. Our focus remains on delivering care that truly matters to seniors and their families.
